AB1011: Googie Coffee Shops Bicycle Ride Series

Kyle Pfister, Garrett Belmont, Branden Ushijima and James Black, four bicycle-riding designers, have undertaken the 2011 Googie Coffee Shops Bicycle Ride Series. Approximately one Saturday per month we will convene a bicycle ride originating at the Village Green and visiting one of the Southland’s remaining Googie coffee shops; ride distances may vary from 10 miles to as many as 80 miles, depending on the restaurant’s location. A bicycle ride, a good breakfast, and lively conversation in a friendly environment make a fine way to start the weekend; and I am glad to take the opportunity to look closely at exemplars of Googie architecture to better understand how they were designed. This spoke card was designed as a punch card to commemorate ride participation:
